Native to Guatemala.
This is one of the tillandsias on the CITES list. They are easy to find
for sale in the states as seed grown plants - but are most often small
and forced into blooming by Florel. I separated plants several years ago
and now have many large, beautiful, lush plants. T. harrisii is a beautiful
plant even out of bloom. In bloom, it has a tall red flower spike, with
many purple tubular flowers. It is a xeric or dry growing species, and
prefers bright light at least part of the day.
