Coelogyne pandurata ‘Tristan’
     Sometimes referred to as the “black orchid” because of the nearly black markings on its lip, this is a very rewarding and beautiful coelogyne to raise. Often one will read that these are relatively low light plants—and while that’s true for growing them, if you ever want to BLOOM them (and isn’t that why most of us grow orchids?) they seem to need brighter light to “encourage” those blooms. The large flowers are nicely fragrant. They open sequentially along an arching spray. They could be grown hanging...we tend to just raise the pot so that the flowers don’t hit the bench below. These are truly special orchids!
