Epidendrum falcatum ‘Marisa’- similar blossoms, but stockier growing than Epidendrum parkinsonianum

 Epidendrum falcatum ‘Marisa’
We were really happy to read the July ‘04 issue of ORCHIDS—it helped clarify the similarities/differences between falcatum and parkinsonianum. (We’d read conflicting information). Some call it parkinsonianum var. falcatum, others call it—and therein lies the problem. They’re very similar!!! Others call it Coilostylis falcata. It can be confusing! As we’ve noticed in our plants, the main difference is that falcatums are stockier growing than parkinsonianum. Both can eventully grow to be quite large—but don’t need to get large before they bloom. The picture shows a rather large plant in a the arms of our six-year-old daughter.
