Cork
Plaques
We have found cork to be the most desireable substance
for orchid plaques. Used alone, the orchid can dry out quickly between
waterings. For orchids that need to dry out more slowly, the addition
of a pad (coconut husk fiber, osmunda, sphagnum) works well. Cork has
natural crevices that orchid roots just LOVE! It doesnt break down,
and adds a beautiful, natural look to mounted orchids.
Cork is the bark stripped from the Cork Oak (Quercus suber) tree. Over
time this bark can develop considerable thickness and is harvested every
10-12 years. The harvesting of cork does not harm the tree and a new layer
grows, making it a renewable resource. Our cork is from Portugal.
Our pre-wired plaques are approx. 4" x 4"
and are wired and ready to hang.
.
We have cork plaques up to
10" x 30". Contact us
if you need a custom size.
